Coaching Pragmatic emphasis or simply hands on help is the business-coaching role. Not to be confused with life style coaching which is completely different.
Let us say the client is promoted into a newly appointed position. Capable, however a little nervous in running meetings or visiting customers as an example. Here the coach accompanies the client in such areas, as a colleague, and provides feedback for learning by the individual.
This is an ideal support role to some one who has to make a good impression and has only one chance to get it right first time. The service is confidential and heavily depends on the vast experience of the coach who will be used to every type of business role as well as behaving in a low-key manner.
Sometimes this method of learning can work well with mentoring. Further more a number of SME’s use this service as a kick start method to get back into field sales activity or getting back closer to the shop floor environment.
Time scales tend to be short term with a high rate of activity so that learning points are highlighted actually on the job or immediately after an event. This method is very helpful to those who prefer to learn quickly.
Facilitation
Formal projects are nowadays not always the most effective method of achieving change. Facilitation means the introduction of an experienced and independent person to encourage dialogue. This is achieved by establishing workable compromise which means producing something that everyone feels they can make a contribution towards. This in turn leads to a positive future and brand or market growth. It is a comfortable way of learning and leaves participants with a higher sense of self worth and self-esteem. If followed up this will lead to a greater belonging for a team as a whole. A platform on which to stand next time change needs to be embraced.
The implementation of change will not occur by simply bringing in new systems. Paramount, is the change of existing working practise. A behavioural issue. Multi-tasking, role amendment, new skills can all be accomplished if there is a will to learn. It is not the end result that matters, the important thing is to MAKE A START.
