Mentoring This is the most modern of business tools for those who wish to choose a client centred approach. The whole aim here is to work with the individual in helping them develop in whichever areas are desired. The work must be non prescriptive and tailored to the individual.
Well how does it work? The mentor and the client meet to see first of all if it is possible to work together, a type of informal question and answer session. Aims and objectives can then be drawn up and if required a programme outlined over a period of time. Subject to agreement, the mentor and client then meet for a series of sessions or meetings, which tend to last for around half a day at a time, depending on the nature of the subject under discussion. Learning points are highlighted at the end of the session and then follows an opportunity to put this into practise in the work place and see how one gets on. By working on issues together and at the clients pace of learning, reassurance can be given in areas of challenge and difficulty. Gradual confidence building ensures incredible progress.
A typical programme would be, initial meeting, three sessions over eight weeks and a follow up. There are a number of clients in corporate business who have maintained this relationship of continuous development over many years and consequently have become very successful in their chosen business role.
